To celebrate World Bee Day<\/a> and support bee conservation in the UK, we've launched a new campaign in partnership with our friends at Teemill and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust - 'One Tee Helps A Bee'! Find out more in this blog, which is buzzing with news!<\/strong><\/h3>

One Tee Helps A Bee!<\/h3>

Our new campaign funds the purchase of wildflower seeds for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust<\/a> to create much-needed habitat for the UK\u2019s bumblebees. It does this because if you want to support bees, planting and looking after wildflowers provides bees with the resources they need to thrive.<\/p>

So, for every order from www.kindpenguins.com<\/a> during our 'One Tee Helps A Bee' campaign, our friends at Teemill<\/a> will make a donation to fund The Bumblebee Conservation Trust's work to secure bee-friendly habitats. Each donation will be enough to seed at least 1 metre squared of wildflower habitat - that's roughly the area needed to support one bee, according to the bee specialists at the Trust.<\/p>

Donations will go directly to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust who will organise and sow the wildflowers on our behalf. You'll probably see us refer to the offer as 'One Tee Helps A Bee' because 'One Tee, One Metre Squared of Bee-Friendly Wildflower Habitat' wasn't quite as catchy a name!<\/p>

What's the buzz about bees?<\/h3>

Bumblebee conservation is an area we've decided to focus on because bumblebee populations have declined dramatically in the last 80 years, with two native species becoming extinct. Out of the remaining 24 bumblebee species, eight are now at risk. The impact of our campaign will help create habitat which has been lost in the UK due to a number of factors including intensification of agriculture, increased use of pesticides, climate change, and pests and disease in wild pollinators.<\/p>

Supporting bumblebee populations also supports biodiversity. Many species of wildflowers would not produce any seeds without help from our bees. These plants are often the basis of complex food chains. This means that supporting bees supports other wild animals that will benefit from the food and shelter offered by the plants they pollinate.<\/p>

The Bumblebee Conservation Trust works to raise awareness of the decline in the UK\u2019s bumblebee population and aims to increase the number and distribution of bumblebees - they're a bee-rilliant organisation to support as a result!<\/p>

It's all about diversity<\/h3>

Wildflower seeds can contain a number of plant species, including red clover, yellow rattle, red bartsia, knapweed and scabious. Diversity ensures different bumblebee species can access nectar. Some bumblebee species are only found in \u2018pockets\u2019 around the UK and need different habitat, which is why funding the purchase of wildflower seeds of choice will help more of our vulnerable bumblebee populations to thrive.<\/p>

The best time to sow wildflowers is the Autumn, however you can sow wildflower seeds all year round. This means the wildflowers will start to blossom in spring, when bumblebee queens emerge from hibernation and need a source of food ready to search for a nesting site to start a colony. From there, cutting an area of habitat\/meadow in autumn and removing the clippings is an important part of land management. This retains low nutrient levels in the soil to suppress coarse grasses which would otherwise out-compete the wildflowers.<\/p>

How the offer works on our store<\/h3>

To take part in our new 'One Tee Helps A Bee' campaign, just place an order during the time the offer is running. There's no special code needed and it costs you nothing more. Once the offer goes live, our suppliers at Teemill count the orders and use each one to fund wildflower seed purchase through the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.<\/p>

Teemill are trialling this offer to see what impact the campaign has. It joins our 'One Tee, One Kg<\/a>' ocean plastic removal campaign and 'Buy One, Get One Tree<\/a>' tree-planting campaign too.<\/p>

So, let\u2019s create a friendlier planet for our bumblebees. The humble bumble needs a hand and now's the time to bee-gin!<\/p>
